Traffic congestion is choking Melbourne’s suburbs and it’s only getting worse under Daniel Andrews.
That is why the Liberal Nationals will invest between $4.1 and $5.3 billion to remove 55 of Melbourne and Geelong’s most dangerous and congested intersections.
Matthew Guy and Liberal Candidate for Carrum, Donna Bauer visited the intersection at Frankston – Dandenong Road and Thompson Road, Carrum Downs which will be removed under the Liberal Nationals policy.
In June 2018, traffic was recorded at 84,667 vehicles per day, on average; this is a 7% increase from June 2015 which saw 79,076 vehicles a day through the intersections.
Weekend traffic has also become worse, with an increase on a typical June 2018 weekend up 7.5% compared to the typical June 2015 weekend.
A Matthew Guy-led government will get Victoria moving again.
Traffic congestion costs our economy around $5.54 billion a year and makes our arterial roads dangerous for all road users.
Removing these suburban congestion hotspots will make our roads safer and keep traffic flowing which means less time spent sitting in gridlock and more time at home with family and friends.
It also means people like tradies, couriers and salespeople who use the roads to get between jobs will be able to do so more quickly. That’s good for business and good for jobs.
This project will create thousands of jobs in the construction phase and it will help accommodate Melbourne’s burgeoning population growth.
While Melburnians are stuck in traffic, Daniel Andrews is too distracted covering up Labor’s “Red Shirt rorts” scandal.
Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“I want to get Victoria moving again so commuters spend less time in traffic and more time with their families and loved ones.
“One thing is certain: if you stick with Daniel Andrews, you’ll be stuck in traffic.
“Labor has been ignoring Carrum for too long and now local streets are becoming car parks.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Carrum, Donna Bauer:
“Whether I’m speaking to local residents or businesses they all tell me that traffic is getting worse and it’s impacting on their daily lives.
“That’s why I’ve been working with Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals team to bust the congestion in Carrum.
“Removing the intersections at Frankston – Dandenong Road and Thompson Road will help residents get around our local area and ease the congestion crush.”
