Suburban sporting clubs are the lifeblood of communities.
The Liberal Nationals are committed to supporting local sporting clubs by investing in their facilities.
If elected, a Liberal Nationals government, led by Matthew Guy will commit $4 million towards the redevelopment of the clubrooms and toilet block at the Carrum Patterson Lakes Football and Netball Club, plus new tennis court and club room upgrades for the Long Beach Tennis Club.
Together with Kingston Council’s existing pledge of $4 million for the site, the $8 million Roy Dore Reserve redevelopment project can now become a reality.
This funding builds on the commitment of the Liberal Nationals to redevelop the club in 2014 and the long campaign from the local community to ensure this commitment still stands.
Roy Dore Reserve is home to 1500 members across eight different sporting and community clubs and the clubrooms are frequently used as a space for community events.
Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind cash-strapped local sporting clubs who desperately need our support.
Comments attributable to Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, David Hodgett:
“Donna Bauer has been doing extensive work with the local community to secure this upgrade for the sports clubs at Roy Dore Reserve and has advocated strongly for this funding.
“The Liberal Nationals won’t hand over millions of dollars to the AFL to spend on Etihad Stadium. Our goal will be to prioritise funding to our suburban and country sports clubs.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Carrum, Donna Bauer:
“I am delighted that Matthew Guy and his team have made this exciting contribution to such an iconic and active sporting club.
“All four of my boys have played at the sports club over the years and it’s great to know that boys and girls in Carrum will continue to play football, netball and tennis for many years to come.”
